Linda Rutherford, Vice President Communication & Strategic Outreach
Linda Rutherford is Vice President of Public Relations and Community Affairs for Dallas-based Southwest Airlines, the nation’s largest airline in terms of domestic Customer enplanements. Responsibilities include overseeing media relations, special event planning, crisis communications, civic and charitable contributions, public relations, legislative awareness/grassroots activities, and graphic design and creative services. Prior to joining Southwest Airlines in 1992, she was a reporter for several Dallas-area suburban newspapers as well as with the Dallas Times Herald, and she began her career with Newsweek magazine in New York.
Education: honors graduate of Texas Tech University; 1988 Outstanding Journalism Graduate; and recently named one of the 2002 Outstanding Alumni of the Texas Tech College of Mass Communications.
Civic Activities: member, board of the Lewisville Independent School District’s Educational Foundation; chairman, Texas Tech Mass Communications Alumni Advisory Committee; member, board of directors of the Press Club of Dallas Foundation; and member, board of directors of Friends of Texas Public Schools.
Steven Gordon, NFTE Alumnus
Steven is the founder of TattooID (pronounced tat-too-eed), which provides parents with safe, fun temporary tattoos for their children, featuring their initials and contact information – ideal for crowded theme parks, beaches and other places where children might get lost. He was inspired to start his business after almost losing his four-year-old brother in crowded places several times. Steven is currently a freshman at Hunter College, studying nursing, and he continues to improve on and promote his business.
