At the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), we truly believe that volunteerism is the “secret sauce” of our mission. This National Mentoring Month, we’re thrilled to spotlight Ernst & Young LLP’s (EY US) incredible support of young innovators through their ongoing volunteerism with the NFTE World Series of Innovation (WSI).

This program year, EY US volunteers have played a pivotal role in empowering students tackling the EY Responsible AI Challenge, guiding them through every stage of the innovation process. Here’s how they’ve made a difference:

From Ideas to Action: EY Connect Day

The journey began on EY Connect Day, when over 200 EY US volunteers connected with nearly 350 students worldwide. These mentors worked closely with students to spark creative ideas, explore innovative uses of AI, and ensure that responsible AI practices were woven into their solutions. By fostering open brainstorming sessions, EY US volunteers helped students envision how AI could solve real-world problems ethically and effectively.

Driving the Judging Process

As students moved from ideation to execution, EY US’s dedication didn’t stop. In fact, they raised the bar, recruiting an incredible almost 400 volunteers to serve as first-round judges—the highest number of judges contributed by any organization! Over the next couple weeks, these judges will review submissions from young innovators, providing thoughtful evaluations and helping NFTE identify the top contenders advancing in the competition.

Shaping Finalists into Future Leaders

The support continues for the top 10 participants, who will now refine their concepts with expert feedback from EY US volunteers. This mentorship will help these young entrepreneurs polish their ideas, develop compelling one-minute pitches, and compete for the top prize. With EY US’s guidance, these students are gaining critical skills in communication, innovation, and ethical decision-making—skills that will serve them well in any future endeavor.

Why EY US’s Support Matters

EY US’s focus on mentorship aligns with their commitment to shape the future with confidence. By volunteering with NFTE, they are igniting the entrepreneurial mindset in the next generation of problem-solvers and demonstrating the power of mentorship in action.

As we celebrate National Mentoring Month, we are profoundly grateful for EY US’s partnership and the passion of their volunteers. Their efforts remind us that mentorship is more than guidance—it’s an investment in the future.
