Rommie’s journey with the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) began during his high school years, culminating in the 2023 National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge in New York last October, where he represented the Capital Region. Now, he’s embarking on a new chapter as a NFTE Fellow. “My incredible experience participating in last year’s pitch competition inspired me to join the NFTE ecosystem,” Rommie shares, his eyes lighting up as he recalls the pivotal moment.
During his time as a NFTE student, Rommie gained invaluable skills that he believes will serve him well in his fellowship and beyond. “The key skills I gained were learning to move boldly for what you are aiming for, making an effort to network with those around you, and learning from your losses while using them to grow,” he reflects.
As Rommie starts his 8-week fellowship, he’s eager to dive deeper into the world of entrepreneurship. “I want to learn about the keys to a successful business as well as how to be a great leader in different situations,” he explains. “I plan to apply this knowledge to my brand while documenting my journey so others can learn from this too.”
The NFTE experience shaped Rommie’s perspective on entrepreneurship. He notes, “My thought process has evolved into being more of a risk-taker and more positive about building my business, and the fellowship will help develop that mindset through actions.”
For future NFTE students aspiring to become fellows, Rommie offers this advice: “Reach out, don’t be afraid to apply, and remember NFTE is a family, so treat it like one.”
Rommie’s enthusiasm for his NFTE journey is evident in every aspect of his life—even in his choice of ice cream flavors and music. He suggests an ice cream flavor called “The Entrepreneurial Chill & Twist” to represent his NFTE experience. This unique flavor would combine the chilling taste of grape with vanilla and a twist of caramel. Additionally, he chooses “Private Landing” by Don Toliver, Justin Bieber, and Future as his fellowship theme song, saying it “properly represents my enthusiasm for the fellowship program and my personality.”
In a playful twist, Rommie revealed that if he could choose any fictional character as his mentor during the fellowship, it would be Luffy from One Piece. “Even though he can be goofy, he’s a great leader and always shows determination for what he wants.”
As Rommie continues his fellowship, he carries with him the lessons, experiences, and relationships forged through NFTE. Rommie’s journey from NFTE student to NFTE Fellow is just beginning, but it’s clear that his passion for entrepreneurship and his determination to succeed will take him far!
