Dr. J.D. LaRock, President & CEO of NFTE, joined Kene Turner, NFTE’s Director of National Postsecondary and Alumni Programs, to lead a presentation at the 2021 Association of Community College Trustees Leadership Congress in San Diego, CA.  As the U.S. emerges from Covid-19, community colleges are being asked to accelerate the nation’s economic recovery by providing innovative pathways for young adults and displaced employees to return to the workforce. This ACCT session highlighted the work NFTE is undertaking across multiple states to promote post-Covid jobs recovery through fast-paced entrepreneurship education and business startup programs, utilizing CARES Act, GEER Fund, and American Rescue Plan Act dollars. By spotlighting NFTE’s thriving partnerships with North Shore, El Camino College (California), St. Petersburg College (Florida), and the College of Southern Nevada, Dr. LaRock and Mr. Turner offered advice on how community colleges can respond to calls from governors, workforce boards, and employers to aid post-Covid employment and economic recovery, implement business start-up curricula quickly, and incorporate wrap-around services, such as corporate/community mentorship, in the execution of programs.
