A Mississippi native, Denise brings nearly three decades of experience across mass communications, including roles as a digital news editor, newspaper editor, reporter, freelance writer, graphic designer, and public relations professional. She has held leadership positions such as Director of Public Relations & Social Impact at YWCA Central Alabama; Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing for the Birmingham Association of REALTORS®; Director of Public Relations for the Alabama Association of School Boards; Coordinator of Marketing and Communications at Tuskegee University; Commissioned Notary Public, Alabama; and Assistant Managing Editor-News at the Montgomery Advertiser (Gannett).

Denise is a member of COSBAC, PRSA, NSPRA, NABJ, and the Alabama Association of Black Journalists. She currently serves as PRSA Alabama’s ethics chair and as president of the No Fear Finances Board of Directors, an Alabama-based nonprofit. A member of the Optimist Club of Birmingham, she has served as a judge for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce CO—100 Top Small Businesses Awards, as well as the Urban Impact (Alabama) B.I.G. Cap Youth Entrepreneurship Program and the Empowered to Conquer Youth Pitch Program.

She previously served on the boards of SAYNO and the Montgomery Area Food Bank and is a past national president of the Council of School Board Association Communicators. Denise is a distinguished graduate of Prentiss High School (Mississippi) and earned her master’s degree in management (summa cum laude) from Troy University Montgomery and her bachelor’s degree in mass communication with a public relations emphasis from Jackson State University (summa cum laude). She is nationally accredited in public relations (APR) and enjoys being a wife and the mom of two adult children.
